COVID-19 testing in the Moreton Bay Region

Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms is being urged to get tested as Queensland Health tries to control an outbreak linked to the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.

As at 9am on August 24, there were 18 active cases in Queensland, with more than 6300 tests conducted in the previous 24 hours.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young says there are so many places on the public health alert list, where those who have tested positive have visited, that anyone with symptoms should come forward even if they haven’t been to those places.

Tighter restrictions

Aged and other care facilities have been put into lockdown and tighter restrictions are in force in relation to gatherings.

Gatherings in homes and in public have been restricted to 10 people in the following local government areas: City of Brisbane, City of Ipswich, Logan City, Scenic Rim Region, Somerset Region, Lockyer Valley Region, Moreton Bay Region, Redlands City.
Dr Young said changes would not be made to gatherings at commercial venues at this stage.

"While we are keeping a watch on commercial venues, they have COVID Safe plans in place and measures to contact trace people if required,” Dr Young said.

"As a further precaution, emergency department staff in the HHSs will be required to wear PPE when seeing any patient."

Where to get tested

"If you are sick, get tested and stay home until you get the results. Even the most minor symptom might be COVID-19,” Dr Young says.

Symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, shortness of breath and loss of smell/taste.

There are testing sites across the Moreton Bay Region including:

  • Redcliffe Hospital
  • Pine Rivers Community Health Centre
  • Moreton Caboolture Respiratory Clinic
  • Health Hub Morayfield
  • Sullivan Nicolaides centres
  • Prince Charles Hospital
