Big developments to watch in Moreton Bay Region

The skyline of the Moreton Bay Region is changing fast, with a succession of major developments currently underway or nearing completion.

They vary from multi-million dollar retail, office and housing to high street commercial, sports centres, regional parks and police stations.

Here is an update of those you will see and a guide to what the developments will look like when completed.

Orion on Rowe

Work is underway in Caboolture on Orion on Rowe, a development by the KTQ Group and described as the first of its kind in Australia.

The masterplan comprises a four-storey 2600sq m office building, cafe and food outlet, 12 special disabilities apartments (SDA), and 23 three-storey townhouses.

There will also be a five-storey 100-bed residential aged care facility and a seven-storey retirement facility with 93 apartments.

Burpengary Station Village

The Comiskey Group is building Burpengary Station Village, a $30 million dual level shopping centre, which already has 75 per cent of retail space pre-leased.

It will include 5900sq m of retail, a 2000sq m supermarket and specialty retail as well as Burpengary Community Club, which takes up 2000sq m.

Burpengary Community Club, comprising bars, a restaurant, gaming room and playground, is taking 18 months to build and is due for completion in March 2021.

South Pine Sports Centre

Work is underway by Moreton Bay Regional Council on a huge new indoor sports centre at South Pine Sports Complex, Brendale and is expected to be completed early next year.

The complex - designed to hold regional, state and international events – will include three multi-purpose courts, a canteen, spectator areas, retractable grandstand seating, offices and a function room.

A new rugby clubhouse will have changerooms and separate meeting rooms for the rugby union and touch football clubs.

The Mill at Moreton Bay

Work is well under way on the new regional park at the site of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Petrie campus.

Plans include refurbishing the cricket oval, installing an outdoor water playground, adventure play area, amphitheatre, barbecues, picnic shelters and parking.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Large native trees are also being planted following the removal of weed species.

28 King St, Caboolture

A row of familiar shops and offices in the Caboolture CBD are being replaced by more than 2500 square metres of commercial office space.

Construction has started on the area at 28 King Street, beside Caboolture Magistrates’ Court. Which extends down towards Esme Avenue.

Developer DeMartini Fletcher Property is working on the development being completed the middle of 2021.

Murrumba Village

The $45 million Murrumba Village development by Property Solutions will bring shops and jobs to the corner of Anzac Ave and Cecily St, Kallangur.

It will have a childcare centre, scheduled to open in July 2021 and shops due to open in October 2021. Work is also underway on 107 Linx townhouses at the rear of the block.

Murrumba Village will include a Fresh & Save Food Warehouse, Liquorland, and five restaurants, a Medical and Allied Health Centre with radiology, allied health, doctor’s surgery, Priceline Pharmacy, dental surgery and café and a Caltex fuel station.

Caboolture watch house

The old Caboolture Watch House, in King Street, received its last prisoner on March 6 after which the demolition teams moved in.

A new watchhouse is now under construction and expected to be finished in mid-2021. It will have 40 beds – a sharp rise on the 14 in the former building.

The Caboolture Watch House handles between 4000 and 5000 prisoners a year. During construction, staff have been redeployed to Redcliffe, Pine Rivers and Sandgate.

Redcliffe Hospital car park

A new 1100-space multi-storey carpark is almost finished on the corner of Anzac Ave and Recreation St at Redcliffe Hospital.

It will be available to patients, visitors and staff when it officially opens in September 2020. Parking rates are to be announced with concessions for patients, carers and staff. The carpark is scheduled to open in September.

Caboolture Cricket Club

Caboolture Cricket Club is just weeks away from unveiling its new indoor development centre at Grant Road.

When completed, the centre will have five nets and changing rooms and is on course to open in September for all club members.

It will be an important part of the club’s development of men, women and juniors as Caboolture works towards its long-term goal of joining the Brisbane Grade competition.

Liberty fuel stop

Margate could have a new fuel station opening up for business in September.

Estimates are that the fuel stop, on the corner of Ewan St and Oxley Ave, is about six weeks from being completed.

When finished the service station will have nine pumps and a convenience food store.
