Big birthday for Osprey House

The beloved Osprey House Environmental Centre has celebrated its 25th birthday today with the people who love it most - its loyal volunteers.

Mayor Peter Flannery says Osprey House was the first purpose-built environmental centre in the region, but it’s the people who have made the place so successful.

“Hitting this quarter century milestone is only possible thanks to the passion and dedication of our volunteers, so I think it’s right that we celebrate them today,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Since 1996, we’ve seen a staggering 250,000 visitors pass through the doors, including more than 37,000 school student visits as well as tourists, birdwatchers and local families.

“The volunteers who’ve made Osprey House what it is today range in age from 16-years-old to 80 years young, with more than 500 volunteers generously giving their time over the past 25 years.

“They have played such an important part in role, from caring for nesting ospreys to inspiring generations of children to care for our native flora and fauna.”

Great time to visit

Councillor Jodie Shipway (Div 4) says now is the perfect time to plan a visit, with school holidays just around the corner.

“Kids are endlessly entertained by the nature boardwalks, bird viewing platforms and interactive learning centre,” Cr Shipway says.

“All of our environmental centres across the Moreton Bay Region are free, including Osprey House in Griffin, Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre (CREEC) in Burpengary and Kumbartcho Sanctuary in Eatons Hill.”
