Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson streams online

The Daniel Morecombe Foundation will livestream its second Australia’s Biggest Child Safety lesson of 2020 tomorrow to mark National Child Protection Week.

The foundation streamed a 30-minute lesson focusing on online safety aimed at upper primary students in June, with tomorrow’s lesson focussing on safe and unsafe secrets and surprises for children aged four to seven.

The new lesson goes live at 10am and Moreton District Crime Prevention Unit officer in charge Sergeant Sarah Grayson is urging Moreton Bay region children, their parents, carers and teachers to tune in, or visit the website later to watch.

Why this is important

“Child protection is everyone’s business,” Sgt Grayson says.

“I think sometimes it’s difficult for people to have that conversation, but I would encourage parents to speak to their children about it.”

Sgt Grayson says the Daniel Morcombe Foundation has worked with many agencies to create a high standard of education and consistency, and parents and teachers can tap into a wealth of resources and conversation-starters through its website.

About the organisation

The foundation was established in 2005 after the disappearance of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe in December 2003. He was last seen waiting for a bus at the Sunshine Coast on his way to buy Christmas presents for his family.

The foundation provides child safety education to children and young people to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing.
