All eyes on Redcliffe for huge day of Girls 7s

Redcliffe Junior Rugby Club is preparing of one of the biggest days on its sporting calendar.

All matches in the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union (BJRU) Girls 7s competition are being played at the Ray Frawley Fields on Sunday.

This is the first season Redcliffe has fielded Girls 7s teams and hence the first time the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union Girls 7s cohort has come to the Peninsula.

More than 30 teams will bring more than 200 players to the Clontarf venue for the Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 games from 8.40am-2pm.

It will be the biggest number of female players at Silcock St in a season when BJRU is fielding its highest number of girls playing 7s.

“We’d encourage all locals to come down for a great day of Girls 7s,” said Nora Maguire, Girls’ Coordinator at Redcliffe Junior Rugby Union.

“Especially girls and their families, who are interested in training for or playing rugby union. Be part of some great sportswomanship, skill development and friendships.”

Girls’ 7s has become increasingly popular since it became an Olympic sport. Australia won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Evania Pelite, from Deception Bay in the line-up.

Redcliffe’s girls train on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5.30-7pm. Visit
