Abbey Museum takes camping to the next level

Abbey Museum takes camping to the next level

How do you choose to camp?

Do you enjoy a 21st century experience or would you prefer to take yourself back 600 years?

To merge the modern and the medieval, Abbey Museum has created ‘Camping Through The Ages’ - two concurrent online raffles to inspire you for your next camping adventure.

Each raffle represents camping in a different moment in time – 1420 and 2020.

Step back in time

Will you enter to win a 1420-inspired camping set up, complete with 5m high and 6m wide hand-painted authentic medieval-style pavilion from Red Hart Reproductions and a portable camping stove and cooking set from Make Your Own Medieval?

Modern marvels

Or will you enter to win a modern camping set up, complete with a beautiful 4m canvas bell tent from Psyclone Tents, a flat pack steel fire pit from Stahl Firepit Aus, and an incredible hand-forged kitchen knife set from Red Hart Reproductions?

Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology director Edith Cuffe says the idea for museum’s first the raffle grew from a donation from a long-time Medieval Festival stallholder, Make Your Own Medieval.

“They run an online store and donated a life-size replica 15th century kit of armour,” Edith says.

“The interest and support for the museum was incredible and the raffle sold out in just 5 days.”

Support Abbey Museum

Edith says camping is a great theme for the next raffles, and with this year’s Abbey Medieval Festival cancelled due to COVID-19, a great way for people to continue to support the museum’s work.

“It allows us to tell an intriguing story while continuing to bring funds into the museum.

“It also supports some local businesses, craftsmen and women, and allows us to communicate our message to a growing audience.”

Runner-up prizes

There are fantastic runner-up through fifth place prizes in each raffle, including handmade pottery by Flaming Gargoyle Pottery, a wooden bowl, spoons and trencher set from ramblingtart, limited series 'Abbey Made' products, Abbey 2020 Mead, Half-Monster Games, and more.
