More than 100 new jobs will be on offer this financial year as part of a Moreton Bay Regional Council recruitment drive.
Moreton Bay Regional Council chief Greg Chemello says jobs will vary from entry level to senior positions and include engineering, asset maintenance, sports and recreation, and planning roles.
“COVID-19 has forced many changes on our communities, but here at Council we’re continuing on the pathway to improve our community and service outcomes by hiring more staff in key areas of need,” Greg says.
“Late last year, Council recognised the need to employ over 150 new workers in varied positions, following the Grassroots Connections Australia review of the organisation.
Greg says the Grassroots review found Council was operating with far fewer staff than other councils of comparable size in southeast Queensland.
Council is hiring more staff so it can deliver appropriate standards of service for the community and improve efficiency.
“We’ve already begun advertising 104 new roles over a 13-week period this financial year, which adds to the 49 staff we recruited last year,” Greg says.
“It takes roughly four weeks from advertising before we are ready to offer, so we will soon start seeing those spots filled.”
Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says this is just one of the many initiatives Council is working on to advance the region and provide greater certainty during uncertain times.
“The new Council has delivered on a number of promises within our first 100 days of office, including $33 million worth of COVID-19 initiatives,” he says.
“We’ve also already completed about two thirds of the 42 major initiatives recommended as part of last year’s organisational review.
“I’m proud to say we’ve been able to get on with the job while times are tough and deliver real outcomes for ratepayers.”
